Things to See and Do
- in and around Thredbo
Twilight Skiing
If you’ve been cruising the slopes all day long and you’re just itching for more, then a cruise under the stars is the ultimate option. In July and August you can link turns down Friday Flat every Thursday and Saturday evening until 7:30pm. Taking to the mountain at night is a spectacular experience, quite different to day riding. And best of all is it's free from 4:30pm.
Flare Run
Look to the skies and the Supertrail for one of Thredbo’s finest traditions, the flare run and fireworks display. It lights up the village on Saturday nights and it’s a sure fire way to kick start a night on the town. For over 25 years visitors to Thredbo have enjoyed the weekly fireworks and flare run display and in 2007, 1,269 skiers and snowboarders took part in a flare run to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Thredbo landslide, smashing the Australian record for the biggest flare run.
Mountain Biking
Pedal at leisure and explore the magic of the mountains or test your skills as you crank it downhill. There are a number of exciting trails to choose from in winter, including the famous Tom Groggin downhill ride. There are also a number of cross country trails along the Thredbo Valley floor. Bike hire is available daily, so you can cruise around the village or take on the hills and head up the Cascade Fire Trail via Dead Horse Gap.
Thredbo Leisure Centre
You can pump up at altitude and fine tune your muscles, take part in a fitness class, swim a few laps in the Olympic sized heated pool, play all your favourite games in the huge sports hall, have a hit of squash, climb the bouldering wall and have a round of mini golf. For the kids (and young at heart) there’s Mission Inflatable, the blow up obstacle course and the wicked waterslide, both sure to keep the good times rolling on.
Snowshoeing
Snowshoeing is a perfect way to discover Australia's unique wilderness and wildlife, at your own pace, for as short or as long as you like. You can also participate in a guided tour or experience the wonder of the snowfields at night under a full moon and learn about mountain fauna and flora
Walking
There are a variety of trails around the village and its surrounds. Free maps are available from the Ticket Office at Valley Terminal.
